Rum River Life Choices Center’s main office in Milaca and its Princeton branch will celebrate two important and historic milestones this weekend.

To show appreciation to the community for its ongoing support over the past 35 years, staff and nurses will host location-specific open houses Sunday, May 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Milaca office has been at various locations over the past 35 years and is now located at 121 Second Ave. S.W.

The Princeton office, which opened in October 2015, is located at 712 S. Rum River Drive, next to Papa Murphy’s.

The public is invited to tour the centers, meet the staff and board, and reminisce, said executive director Ann Morell, who has been with the Christ-centered ministry since 2000 and served as its executive director since 2004.

Local pastors will provide prayers of dedication at 5:45 p.m. at each location, and refreshments will be served.

Sunday’s events will also celebrate Rum River Life Choices’ recently completed ultrasound campaign.

On Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, Jan.20, 2019, Rum River Life Choices Center began its “Window to the Womb” Ultrasound campaign.

The goal of the campaign was to raise $60,000 to purchase two new ultrasound machines.

One ultrasound unit is being used to update the non-profit’s 10-year-old machine at its Milaca office, and the other is being used to add ultrasound services at the Princeton branch office, Morell said.

The Princeton office remodeled one of its counseling rooms and converted it into an exam room so that they could begin to offer limited ultrasounds to the clients.

Churches, businesses and individuals raised $66,000 in just one month to support the ultrasound fundraising effort, Morell said.

The machines were purchased, the staff was trained on the new machine and ultrasound services are now being offered on the new machines at both locations.

This project was partially funded by the Benton Telecommunication Foundation, a local foundation, in the amount of $16,250 toward the Milaca machine.

Ultrasound plays a vital role in helping a woman connect with the baby inside of her and make an informed decision about a pregnancy.Life Choices Center’s first trimester, limited ultrasound services provide confirmation of intrauterine pregnancy, detects fetal cardiac activity (heartbeat), determines the gestational age of her baby, and determines the baby’s due date, Morell said.

Life Choices Center has served the local Milaca community since 1984 and is affiliated with the national Care-Net organization.

Both locations offer the free and confidential services: Pregnancy testing; limited obstetrical ultrasound; prenatal and parenting classes called L.I.F.E. (Lessons In Family Education) Classes; information and referrals on STI’s; education on abortion risks and alternatives; men’s mentoring; referrals to community resources; maternity and baby clothing and supplies; post-abortion recovery support; and relationship skills counseling.

Milaca office hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Princeton hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
