An 11-year-old died Friday afternoon near Milaca after the horse-drawn manure spreader he was operating with his 13-year-old brother hit a rock, throwing both juveniles off, Mille Lacs County Sheriff Don Lorge reported in a news release.
The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Communication Center received an emergency call of a farming accident at 6292 110th St. at 9:22 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
When deputies arrived at that address they learned that two juveniles, ages 13 and 11, had been operating a team of horses when they hit a rock, throwing both of them off the farm implement, the news release stated.
After the juveniles fell, the 11-year-old was then run over by the manure spreader causing his death, Lorge reported. The 13 year old sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Lorge confirmed that the farm accident involved members of the Milaca Amish community.
The Anoka County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy and those findings will be forwarded to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office when the autopsy is completed.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, the news release stated.
