With the holiday season knocking on the door, local businesses are gearing up for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24.
Princeton has 23 local businesses participating in its Small Business Saturday campaign, according to Karen Michels of Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We encourage people to support their neighbors, family and friends on small business Saturday,” Michels said.
Customers looking to shop in Princeton on Small Business Saturday are encouraged to pick up a bingo card, available at each participating local business, as well as the Chamber of Commerce office. The bingo shopping card contains the logos of each of the businesses, and with a qualifying purchase or donation of $5 at each business, the business will stamp the bingo card and give customers an opportunity to win a number of gift cards.
The holiday bingo cards will be valid beginning Nov. 24 until Dec. 22. To be eligible for a gift card, customers must complete a double-bingo on their card by recording a regular bingo (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal all the way across), four corners or by recording a cover-all by visiting each of the businesses and making a qualifying purchase or donation.
The Chamber will draw two winners for a $50 chamber cash prize for the four corners entries, one $150 chamber cash winner for the double bingo entries and one $350 chamber cash winner for the cover-all entries.
Each chamber cash prize comes with a list of all the businesses that are Chamber members or participated in the Princeton Shop Local coupon page.
Brick and mortar buildings will not be the only businesses participating in Princeton’s Small Business Saturday.
An estimated five to eight crafting, boutique and home-based businesses will take part in Princeton’s pop-up mart at 401 First St., Suite A in Princeton. The pop-up mart begins on Nov. 24 and will run through Dec. 22 on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To accompany Small Business Saturday and to get into the holiday spirit, individual businesses are encouraged to decorate their storefront windows, as there will be a decorating contest where people can vote on the best decorations. Votes will be counted Nov. 24 through Dec. 1 and the winner of the contest will be announced on Dec. 3. Votes can be cast on the MNPACC Facebook page.
The top three vote-getters will receive a $25 chamber cash prize.
In addition to Small Business Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be stopping by the Riverside Mall for a photo opportunity; 4x6 photos with the North Pole’s favorite couple cost $5 with the proceeds benefiting Princeton Ambassador scholarships. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos from 2-5 p.m. on Nov. 24.
The Teddy Bear Band will also make an appearance at Riverside Mall on Small Business Saturday from 3-3:45 p.m.
