Green Step Cities is a program that guides municipalities in pursuing sustainability and quality of life. The program provides information and guidance for best practices concerning buildings and lighting, land use, transportation, environmental management and economic and community development. Former Stacy City Council Member Samantha Denney was successful in achieving her goal of enrolling the city as a Green Step City.

Green Step Cities representative Diana McKeown presented a plaque and certificate of membership to the city of Stacy Oct. 11. McKeown noted Stacy is one of only a few cities in the area to join the program. Forest Lake, Marine on St. Croix and Scandia are also Green Step Cities.

Mayor Mark Utecht accepted the membership on behalf of the city. He then reminded the council members they must find a representative and liaison replacement for Denney, who departed the council in August to move out of state. Utecht added that the representative need not be a council member and interested residents should contact City Hall for information.
