To the editor:
Cub Scouting is a great way to have fun with your son.
Those with elementary school-age boys who want to have fun learning new things and having adventures should join Cub Scouts.
Along with a lot of other extracurricular activities, we chose Scouting for our boys because it was something we could do together. Though humbling at times to discover you are on an equal footing with a 6- or an 8-year-old, there is nothing that bonds parents and boys with each other so well as having fun overcoming common challenges.
Cub Scouting is all about parents and boys getting out to see new things, learning how to make things, and everyone having fun. Parents learn how to help their sons develop practical skills and knowledge used both to advance in rank and compete in a wide range of games. Everybody wins because everybody learns and has fun. Boys care most about the fun, the friendships, and the mutual respect developed with their friends, parents and other adult leaders.
Sept. 17 will be School Night for Scouting at all elementary schools. Interested people can stop by their local school 7-8 p.m. to sign up.
Rocket into Scouting is the Fall theme. By signing up, boys will receive a model rocket kit to build, excluding the rocket engine. Many Cub Scout dens get together to share the fun of building the rockets as one of their first activities.
You can find out more about Cub Scouting and register as a Cub Scout online. The Northern Star Council has a website that has information about the program and groups in your area.
