Sun Thisweek and the Dakota County Tribune have two new reporters who started covering the cities of Lakeville and Farmington this week.
Dean Spiros and Kara Hildreth, who have a combined 63 years of journalism experience, will be covering Lakeville and Farmington, respectively.
Spiros, a longtime Lakeville resident, comes to the newspaper after having been a team leader, editor and reporter for the Star Tribune for 13 years. He also worked for the Arlington Heights Daily Herald in Illinois for 18 years as a sports section assignment editor.
Hildreth, a longtime Farmington resident, was a contributor for the past three years for the Farmington-Rosemount Independent Town Pages, which discontinued publication on Aug. 1.
Prior to that she was a reporter for Southwest Newspapers for more than two years and Thisweek Newspapers. She covered Farmington for five years for Thisweek.
“We are very excited to have these two experienced and accomplished journalists join the newspaper,” said Keith Anderson, director of news for Adams Publishing Group of ECM. “It is a rarity that a community newspaper can bring aboard two journalists of this caliber. We know their contributions will bring immediate value to the newspaper.”
Spiros and Hildreth will be writing stories about interesting aspects of the community, along with operations in local government with the assistance of Tad Johnson.
Johnson has been covering the city of Lakeville since March. He’s been with the newspaper since 2003.
