To the editor:

U.S. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Eagan, has announced that she supports the impeachment probe because the president asked the Ukrainian government to interfere with a political rival and threatened to withhold military aid to an ally if they did not comply. This is a serious allegation. I contacted both the local and national offices of Angie Craig to inquire as to evidence on which this allegation was based. The local office could not answer my question and the national office referred me to the president’s phone call transcript with the Ukrainian president. The problem is there is not a single word in the phone call transcript about withholding the foreign aid. The transcript is five pages so it does not take much time or energy to read. Perhaps Craig could not devote the few minutes to read the transcript before delivering her statement on the matter. Now it costs taxpayers $1.3 million per year to run Craig’s congressional offices. One would hope that of the $1.3 million Craig could hire a fact checker especially given the gravity of the impeachment inquiry. Overturning the results of a national election is a big deal that should require serious consideration of the facts. Not fake facts. Apparently Craig is not inclined to take the necessary steps to get to the facts but rather parrot half-truths and lies from the Pelosi/Schiff/Nadler talking points machine. Voters in Congressional District 2 deserve a representative that is contemplating overturning the national election results to do the hard work of fact finding first before promulgating false information on this serious matter. Craig should either clarify her comments or issue a retraction. I expect neither as she has demonstrated by her own words that she is comfortable playing fast and loose with the truth.
