The Rosemount High School marching band had a banner day Saturday at the Bands of America Regional Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The band took first place in Class AAA and had the highest overall preliminary score for all classes among a talented group of competitors. They also earned Highest Achievement awards for Outstanding Visual and Outstanding General Effect and earned a slot in the final round of competition.

At finals, Rosemount earned awards for Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect. They missed a first-place finish by .25 points, taking second place to the Blue Springs High School Marching Band from Missouri, which they had prevailed over in the preliminary round. Blue Springs is a highly regarded and top placing band at Band of America competitions, and a Grand Nationals finalist.

“We are extremely proud of the shows the band put on the field on Saturday,” says RHS band director Leon Sieve. “The kids have been working hard on our show since July 1, and their time, efforts, and attention to detail really showed.”

Three other Minnesota bands joined Rosemount at the Iowa Regional – Eastview, Marshall and Grand Rapids. The event took place at the University of Northern Iowa Dome and was a new regional event for Bands of America which hosts events across the country.

The name of Rosemount’s 2019 show, “Transcend,” seems to be a theme for the band’s experience this year in competitions. The band’s achievements at the Iowa Regional come on the heels of a successful competition in Marshall, Minnesota.

At the Pursuit of Excellence competition, Rosemount earned the highest overall score of the competition and were named the 2019 Sweepstakes Winner. In addition, the band was awarded special “caption” awards for outstanding drum majors, color guard, brass, woodwinds, concert percussion, battery percussion, music and overall visual.

“It’s always our goal to transcend, if you will, to the next level of performance,” Sieve said. “It’s so much fun to see it happen.”

Rosemount isn’t slowing down. With three weeks left in the competition season, the band still has another part of the show to add on. The band will be performing its complete show at the Youth in Music Championship at U.S. Bank Stadium on Oct. 12, and their grand finale at the Band of America Super Regional in St. Louis on Oct. 19.
