The Apple Valley Police Department is inviting young people between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in law enforcement to an open house for the Apple Valley Police Explorer Post No. 571.
The event is at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Apple Valley Police Department, 7100 147th St. W. in Apple Valley.
Explorers are taught police techniques in areas such as domestic crisis intervention, burglary in progress, hostage negotiation, arrest and search, field sobriety testing and bomb threat response. Explorer meetings give participants a chance to work with police officers and prepare for a state competition at the end of the season, according to the department.
