To the editor:

Last year my family and I moved back to my native Minnesota after 30 years living abroad. We could have settled anywhere but were drawn to Eagan by the strong community and exceptional schools. We have a 7-year-old who attends an Eagan public school.

It is hard to overstate the importance of a well educated population to a country’s future. Without question, School District 196 offers an exceptional education for our children and the shot at a bright future. The professional teaching resources at District 196 can easily slip away if not nurtured. Obviously these resources have been funded by taxpayers, reflecting the priority placed by the community over the years on education.

I understand an average increase of $25 a month in property tax is an issue for many families. But if we need to maintain the investment this community has made over the years. Many of us have benefited from a quality public education, to walk away now is tantamount to pulling up the ladder after scaling the wall.

Vote Yes to the School District 196 levy.
