The misuse of and addiction to opioids – which include prescription pain pills, heroin and synthetic drugs such as fentanyl – has become a serious national crisis.

Burnsville is not immune. To help better define the problem, explain its impacts and provide resources to combat it, the city of Burnsville is hosting a panel discussion – “Understanding the Opioid Crisis” Thursday, June 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Burnsville City Hall, 100 Civic Center Parkway.

The panel discussion will include testimony from experts, information on how police and emergency personnel respond to opioid-related incidents, treatment options, and resources available for combatting the crisis locally.

Speakers will include Burnsville Fire’s medical director, a drug and alcohol counselor, a psychiatric nurse practitioner dealing in addiction psychology, and emergency responders.

Please RSVP if possible. Registration is to gauge attendance only. No personal data is required. The event is free to attend.
