District 196 will be serving free meals for children this summer at four school sites and two neighborhood locations in Apple Valley and Eagan.

Children do not need to attend a District 196 school to receive the free summer meals and there is no income eligibility requirement. All children ages 18 and under who show up during serving times will receive a free meal. Adults may also eat during these times; the cost is $4 for lunch and $2.25 for breakfast (cash only). The locations, dates and meal times are listed below.

• Cedar Knolls mobile home community (near the pool), 12571 Garland Ave., Apple Valley. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Mondays and Wednesdays, June 10-Aug. 15 (except July 1-5).

• Cedar Park Elementary STEM School, 7500 Whitney Dr., Apple Valley. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 17-Aug. 8 (except July 1-5) and breakfast will be available from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, July 22-Aug. 8.

• Cinnamon Ridge Park, 4598 Slater Road, Eagan. Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 10-Aug. 15 (except July 1-5).

• Dakota Ridge School, 4629 144th St. W., Apple Valley. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 17-July 19 (except July 1-5).

• Echo Park Elementary School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology, 14100 County Road 11, Burnsville. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 17-Aug. 8 (except July 1-5) and breakfast will be available from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, July 22-Aug. 8.

• Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership, Environmental and Health Sciences, 4350 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Eagan. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 17-Aug. 8 (except July 1-5) and breakfast will be available from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, July 22-Aug. 8.

These locations qualify for Summer Food Service Program funding from the USDA based on the need of the children in these areas. The goal of the program is to help as many children as possible get the nutritious meals they need during the summer when they are not attending school.
