Eighteen children from the Hopkins School District joined officers from the Hopkins Police Department for a full day of boating and fishing June 12 on Lake Minnetonka. The group boarded two pontoons, donated by Bay to Bay Boat Club, in Tonka Bay and set off for St. Alban’s Bay.

The officers taught the children, all of whom were nominated for the experience by community members, to bait their hooks with worms, leeches and minnows, drop their lines in the water, reel in and unhook their catches and release the fish back into the water.

The day was broken up by a pit stop in Excelsior for lunch on Maynard’s wharf. Food was donated by the restaurant.

Bait, fishing rods and other supplies were sponsored by Cities Live Bait.
