A necklace made by St. Louis Park resident Melissa Mark appeared on national television.

Mark learned that Valerie Jarrett, who served as a senior advisor during the Obama Administration, would be coming to ModernWell, a women-centered collaboartive space in Minneapolis, on her book tour for “Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path Forward.” Mark got a ticket to the event and gave Jarrett her I Am True AMuleT necklace, which she described as representing believing in one’s voice as true and strong.

The next evening, Jarrett appeared as a guest on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” while wearing the necklace.

Mark is a family physician by training. She began making jewelry more than 20 years ago during a college metal-smithing class.

She took jewelry design and technique classes over the years, slowly building a base of knowledge, as well as the desire to create designs of her own. She started Melissa C Mark LLC in 2017 as a way to bring her designs to a larger audience.
