Kelly Morrison, DFL-Deephaven, narrowly beat three term Rep. Cindy Pugh, R-Chanhassen, during the Nov. 6 General Election for Minnesota House District 33B.
The district includes Deephaven, Greenwood, Excelsior, Minnetonka Beach, Mound, Shorewood, Spring Park, Tonka Bay and portions of Chanhassen and Orono.
The unofficial results, with all 21 precincts reporting in, have Morrison narrowly winning the election with 11,786 votes, or 50.43 percent while Pugh had 11,570 votes, or 49.5 percent. There were 16 write-ins, or 0.07 percent.
"I am excited and humbled to be the next State Representative for 33B," Morrison said. "Thank you to everyone who knocked doors, made phone calls, wrote post cards, marched in parades, donated time and treasure and spread the word! This has been the ultimate team effort. I am looking forward to representing everyone in our district! I'd like to thank Cindy Pugh for her service to 33B for all those years and I'd like to thank the people of our district who have given me the opportunity to represent them. It was an incredibly close election. One of the main reasons I ran was to be a voice for civil discourse and promote problem solving together. I recognize that we may not all agree on all issues but I want to represent everyone in our district and I welcome conversations with everyone."
Morrison said that once she's in office she'd like to focus on keeping healthcare costs contained while making sure everyone gets covered, continue to enhance public school education, promote policies that protect the environment and work towards gun reform.
