To the Editor:
As a long-time St. Louis Park resident, community volunteer and former school board member, I urge you to consider Nadia Mohamed for St. Louis Park City Council At-Large B.
Ours is a diverse community. Our city council should reflect this diversity, whether it be race, gender, age, or cultural or social background.
Since coming to the United States at a young age, St. Louis Park has been Nadia’s home. As a new American and Muslim woman of color, she has experienced and understands the challenges faced by people of different backgrounds and life experiences. Her desire to become an involved member of our community and promote growing engagement among all who live and work here led her to serve on the St. Louis Park Multicultural Advisory Committee. Her efforts and leadership resulted in Nadia being named a co-recipient of the 2018 St. Louis Park Human Rights Award.
Being under 30, Nadia will also bring a youthful perspective to the city council, further broadening the diversity of the council membership.
Having gotten to know Nadia, I believe she is committed to informed decision-making and understands that listening to the needs and concerns of all of our citizens is an essential part of effective representation. She seeks to foster open communication among city leaders, city staff and community residents. She is a thoughtful and collaborative leader, willing to listen to all points of view before making a reasoned decision.
Nadia understands the important role the city council plays and what must be done to maintain St. Louis Park’s quality of life. She is an outstanding candidate. Nadia has my vote for St. Louis Park City Council At-Large B. Please give her yours Tuesday, Nov. 5.
