Hopkins VFW collects 1,900 pounds, $1,170 for food shelves
The Hopkins VFW Post 425 and Auxiliary hosted a food drive Dec. 19, collecting more than 1,900 pounds of food and $1,170 in cash donations for ICA Food Shelf of Minnetonka and People Reaching Out to People (PROP) of Eden Prairie. “It was amazing,” said Chrissy Dooley, a Hopkins Auxiliary member and organizer of the event. Dooley noted there were also two checks delivered made out to ICA, one for $50 and another for $500 dropped off by a couple that read the Sun Sailor’s preview story. “It was touching for all the folks that donated, and the volunteers had a great time knowing they are helping our neighbors in need,” Dooley said. In addition to this food drive, the Hopkins VFW directly donated more than $12,000 split between PROP, ICA and STEP food shelves. The VFW is also planning to continue its mission; collecting inside when the post building reopens or through another drive-by event early in 2021.
