Jim Beneke has announced his re-election candidacy for the St. Louis Park School Board.
Beneke and his wife have been 24-year members of the community and have three children who have been enrolled in the school district.
“I have greatly appreciated the St. Louis Park community and its public school system,” Beneke said. “I have especially appreciated the diversity that exists in St. Louis Park and the commitment the community has to the well-being of every child.”
As to why he decided to run for re-election, Beneke said, “I believe a vital public education system is essential for a society that strives for universal equity and opportunity. I want to help the continued success of at least one public school district, while recognizing it struggles like many schools to close the achievement gap. I want to help it lead the way until the day success in school is not predictable from demographic data.”
Beneke serves as the clerk of the school board and is the school board liaison to the St. Louis Park Planning Commission. Beneke has served as the chair for the community education advisory committee and the chair of the parks and recreation committee along with other city and school committees. He has also been a soccer coach, a Lego League coach, a YMCA Voyager program leader and a mathematics teacher at Normandale Community College.
