In honor of the club’s 40th anniversary, the Plymouth Rotary Club donated outdoor musical instruments, including xylophones and hand drums, as part of the park improvements to Zachary Playfield. The purchase of the instruments was a partnership with the Rotary clubs of Orono and Wayzata. During the 40th anniversary picnic June 22, Rotary members commemorated the event with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. Pictured are: City of Plymouth Forester Paul Buck, Irene Kelly, current Rotary District 5950 governor; Plymouth Mayor and Rotary member Jeff Wosje, Plymouth Councilmember Ned Carroll, Russ Michaletz, incoming district governor; James Williams, co-president of the Plymouth Rotary; Mary Christensen, Rotary member and event organizer; and Steve Beachler, Rotary member and event organizer.

Plymouth Rotary Member Steve Beachler talks about the history of the club, which was sponsored by the Hopkins Rotary Club in 1979 as a joint club with the Minnetonka Rotary until 2006 when it became the Plymouth Rotary club. Beachler noted that in the 40 years, the service organization donated $400,000 toward local and international projects, most notably Heart Safe Plymouth, which has provided AED/CPR training to 6,000 community members.
