The Excelsior Lake Minnetonka Historical Society will present “Writing on the Water,” an opportunity to ride the historic steamboat “Minnehaha.” While aboard, screen and radio actors Mark Benninghofen and Sue Scott will read passages about Lake Minnetonka written by authors of varying popularity.
The cruise will be Monday, July 8, with boarding starting at 6:45 p.m. and departing at 7 p.m. Passengers will board at the charter dock behind 687 Excelsior Blvd. Tickets for members are $22.50 and for non-members the cost is $37.50. Tickets can be purchased online at writingonthewater.eventbrite.com.
Benninghofen has performed off-Broadway in New York, at the Guthrie Theatre, and others across the country. He has appeared in television series such as “Frasier”, “Drew Carey”, “Chicago Hope” and others. He has also done voice work for over 4,500 commercials.
Scott is known for her work in public radio. From 1992-2016, she was the female cast member in “A Prairie Home Companion”. She has recently appeared in performances at the History Theatre and Mixed Blood Theatre. She has also launched the podcast, “Island of Discarded Women.”
The Excelsior Street Car Line of the Minnesota Streetcar Museum will offer streetcar rides at no extra cost to within a block of the dock. Passengers can tour of the museum at 305 Water Street, where they will check in between 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. to take the trolley to Excelsior Boulevard. After the cruise, passengers will be able to board the trolley to go back to the museum.
