Armstrong senior Sierra Smith can only race in four events in the 5AA section meet Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 7-9, at Minnetonka Aquatics Center.
But whichever events Smith chooses, she will be one of the favorites to make state in each one. Smith comes into the meet with top-20 state times in seven events, including two relays. She has the fourth-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle (23.77 seconds) and the ninth best time in the 100 free (52.59).
Smith also has the 15th-best time in the 500 free (5:12.2), the 17th-best time in the 200 free (1:56.27) and the 19th-best time in the 200 individual medley (2:11.05).
In all but the 500 free, she has the second fastest time posted for swimmers in the 5AA section. The top two finishers in each event advance to state along with anyone who ties or beats the state standard.
The state standards in those events are: 50 free (24.39), 100 free (53.17), 200 free (1:55.05), 200 IM (2:10.28) and the 500 free (5:12.05).
Smith also has top-20 times on the 200 and 400 free relays. Smith joined senior Molly Zook, sophomore Zoe Bresnahan and freshman Olivia Kehn to post the seven fastest state time in the 200 free relay (1:41.36). That is also the best time for any team in the 5AA section so far.
The same quartet has the 11th-best time in the 400 free relay (3:41.02), which is second best for any 5AA section squad.
The state standards for those relays are: 200 free relay (1:39.53) and 400 free relay (3:38.94).
Bresnahan is the other Falcon to post a top-20 state time this season. She has the 13th-best time in the 500 free (5:10.03), which is also two seconds better than the state standard.
