Osseo cross country sent three runners to the AA state meet Nov. 2 at St. Olaf College – senior Mackinon Mokoro for the boys and sophomore Lexi Davis and eighth-grader Jules Davis for the girls.
But at the end of the meet, there were at least 20 runners celebrating with coaches and taking photos together to share in the moment.
Lexi Davis ended up taking 44th overall in the girls race in 19 minutes, 6.1 seconds, and Jules Davis was close behind in 61st in 19:13.2. Mokoro finished 66th in the boys race in 16:39.8.
Lexi Davis had a strong finish to her race. She was in 43rd at 1,600 meters in 5:52.2, but she fell 13 spots back in her next 1,600 with a time of 6:22.6.
But she saved a push for the final 1,800 meters. She ran the last third of the race in 6:51.3 and moved back up 12 spots.
The final time for Lexi Davis was a state PR. She was 72nd in the 2017 state meet in 19:34.1 and 67th in the 2018 state meet in 19:10.6.
Jules Davis was in 46th at the 1,600 mark in 5:52.4, but she also dropped 13 spots in her next 1,600 with a time of 6:23. She was able to close the final 1,800 in 6:57.8.
Mokoro had a great start to his race by reaching the 1,600 mark in 4:47.4, which had him ahead in first place. He only dropped seven spots at the 3,200 mark, running his second 1,600 in 5:14.3. The pack caught up with him in the final 1,800 meters, however.
Mokoro was 59th at state in 2018 in 16:25.1.
