Champlin Park sophomore Tashina Beyioku-Alase starts the girls 4x200 relay on June 7 in the AA state track and field meet at Hamline University in St. Paul. She joined seniors Lauryn Samuel, Olivia Stensvad and Dejah Jenkins to finish 11th in a season-best time of 1 minute, 44.73 seconds. She also was on the 4x100 relay with freshman Royanna Whicker, Samuel and Jenkins, finishing 10th in 49.44.

Champlin Park sent two relays to the AA state girls track and field championships June 7-8 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays continued to excel at the state meet despite just missing the finals cut after prelims on June 7.

Freshman Royanna Whicker, sophomore Tashina Beyioku-Alase and seniors Dejah Jenkins and Lauryn Samuel came the closest to state with a 10-place finish in the 4x100 in 49.44 seconds.

The quartet was just 0.15 of a second off of their season-best and just 0.18 of a second behind the final qualifier Moorhead.

Minneapolis North juniors Colette Anigbogu, Shaliciah Jones and Brianna Parsons and freshman Tamia Horton took home the state title in the 4x100 in 48.24.

The Rebels’ 4x200 relay finished 11th in prelims, but the quartet of senior Olivia Stensvad, Tashina Beyioku-Alase, Samuel and Jenkins did have a season-best time of 1:44.73.

Minnetonka seniors Ashley Shields and Faith Robinson, sophomore Ella Roach and freshman Desiree Ware won the state title in the 4x200 in 1:42.08.

Samuel also competed for Champlin Park in the 100-meter dash and took 13th in prelims in 12.51, just 0.03 of a second from her personal best.

Minneapolis North’s Jones won the state title in the 100 in 11.9.

Samuel, Jenkins and Stensvad all finished their high school careers at state. Tashina Beyioku-Alase and Whicker are both expected to be back next season.
