A citywide mask mandate will go into effect in the city of Golden Valley Thursday evening. The Golden Valley City Council opted to pass the mandate and declare a local emergency in a special meeting Jan. 11.
The mandate was passed in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 as it surges in the city and county.
Masks are required for those in an indoor public spaces, like a business, facility or institution, regardless of vaccination status. Those that are not able to medically tolerate a mask, or are two years of age or less do not need to wear a mask. Other exemptions will include athletes, performers and support staff actively competing or performing.
The mandate will take effect 5 p.m. Jan. 13.
