Crystal's biggest and most recognized facility - Becker Park - was officially opened after a year's delay in the special celebration held Saturday, May 22.
In addition to speeches from local dignitaries, The Crystal Fund hosted its annual plant sale, food trucks were located on-site, there was music by Kidsdance, and the Kalpulli Ketzalcoatlicue Aztec Dance group that provided the entertainment.
Guest speakers included Crystal Mayor Jim Adams, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota State Rep. Ann Rest, Minnesota State Rep. Mike Freiberg, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Lunde, Chad Simich of Chad Greenway’s Lead the Way Foundation and Parks & Recreation Commission Chairperson Jesse McCaffrey.
Over the years, Becker Park has been the venue for a variety of entertainment and community events. With the completion of the reconstruction project in 2020, its upgrades have provided even more reasons to gather there.
The park is now complete with a large inclusive play area, performance area, fountain/water feature, and small restroom building.
Amenities such as the softball fields and arts center were removed as part of the most recent project. No changes were made to the parking lots, tennis courts or basketball court.
