Golden Valley city officials have announced that due to an unusually low amount of seasonal hires, the city may pare down its summer programs.

According to a news release, the city reported that seasonal hiring within its recreation and public works departments hadn’t reached typical numbers, a trend it attributed to many other industries across the country.

According to the release, both departments had only hired half of the seasonal staff needed.

As a result, services are expected to be “limited or unavailable in the near future.” That includes the recreation programs and some public works duties, like park maintenance that spike as a result of greater outdoor activity during the summer. So far, the city has trimmed its “Puppet Wagon” and “Playground Adventure Van” schedules from four and three times per week, respectively, to two times and one time per week.

The city continues to hire at goldenvalleymn.gov.
