Filing for two city council seats and the mayor's seat ended 5 p.m. today for the upcoming November elections in Golden Valley. All filings remain unchanged, with the addition of council member Steve Schmidgall filing for mayor, which occurred on the filing deadline, Aug. 13, after the print edition of the Sun Post went to press.

Expiring seats are currently held by council member Joanie Clausen, council member Schmidgall, and mayor Shep Harris.

Running for city council this fall is incumbent Clausen, Maurice Harris, Kimberly Sanberg, and Andy Johnson. Schmidgall and incumbent Harris make a contested race for the mayor's seat.

All six candidates identify as nonpartisan in their filing information to the office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Candidates have until 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 to withdraw their filing.

Up-to-date filing and withdrawal information can be found on the Secretary of State's website.
