Marilyn E. Kelzer

Marilyn E. Kelzer, age 79 of Waconia, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Community (41 East First Street) in Waconia with Father Stan Mader as Celebrant of the Mass; a gathering of family and friends was from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church; interment St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Waconia. Marilyn was born on April 11, 1940 in Waconia, the daughter of Ferdinand and Minnie (Johnson) Wagener. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia. On October 7, 1967, Marilyn was united in marriage to Denis J. Kelzer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia. Since Marilyn and Denis retired from their farm in 1999, they have lived in downtown Waconia just minutes away from their many friends and relatives. Waconia was her home for all of her life and she loved it there. Marilyn was full of energy and always had a smile on her face. If she knew you and saw you when she was out, you could count on her yelling your name the moment she saw you. She loved to catch up and visit. And, she LOVED to talk on the phone. If there was news to share you could count on her being in the know and then sharing it with family and friends. Marilyn and Denis loved to go to dances and listen to Polka music as often as they could. For many years, a visit to the Casino to play some slots was something Marilyn enjoyed as well. Although she’d often tell you that Denis had the luck. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards and was always up for a game after a holiday meal, an evening with her friends or anytime the grandkids wanted to play. As many know, these past two years have been very tough on Marilyn’s health. Her diagnosis of Kidney Disease quickly lead to a need for recurring dialysis treatments. She fought hard until the end. In her last day, she was able to spend it with all of her family. She is now at peace. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Ferdinand and Minnie Wagener; brothers Edward, Harold, Elmer and James Wagener; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dora Wagener, Kilian Kelzer, Hubert Kelzer, Hildegard Zwack, Jeanette Arndt, Lyra Heath, Genrose Schmidt, Sister Joann Kelzer, Ardis Kelzer. Marilyn is survived by her loving family: husband Denis “Jack” Kelzer; son Paul (Lisa) Kelzer of Rogers; daughter Susie (Tory) Passons of Minneapolis; grandchildren Elizabeth Kelzer, Noah Kelzer, Cena Passons, Reece Passons; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Lucille “Toots” Wagener of Waconia, Geraldine Wagener of Waconia, Leon (Marilyn) Kelzer of Waconia, Erna Gallagher of Wisconsin, Eunice Vinkemeier of Chaska, Alice Kelzer of Watertown; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
