Douglas L. Albright

Douglas L. Albright, age 70 of Waconia, died peacefully Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (41 E. First St.) in Waconia with Fr. Stan Mader as Celebrant of the Mass. Gathering of family and friends was 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home (141 E. First St.) in Waconia and Thursday one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to charity of donor’s choice. Douglas Lee Albright was born January 17, 1949 in Austin, the son of Alwyn F. and Joyce A. (Beckel) Albright. Doug attended Queen of Angels Catholic School and was a graduate of the Pacelli Catholic High School, both located in Austin. He continued his education at the Austin Community College and later Mankato State University. On December 1, 1978, Doug was united in marriage with Colleen J. Turner. Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Doug loved the outdoors and was a passionate fisherman and duck hunter. After college, he mined gold in the rivers of Northern California. He was a carpenter who built two houses for his family. In 1985, he began a second career as a social worker. He retired from First Street Center in Waconia in 2016. After his retirement, he continued to serve as a volunteer. He shared his passion for the outdoors, patiently fishing with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wild rides on the tube pulled by his boat was a summer highlight for many. He was a sharp poker player, winning many party tournaments. He was a long time member of Ducks Unlimited. Doug is preceded in death by his father Alwyn Albright; father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Helen Turner. Doug is survived by his loving family: wife Colleen Albright of Waconia; son Grady Albright and his special friend Anne Holmen of Cannon Falls; daughter Caylee Albright and her special friend Carlin Bassett of Brooklyn Park. Doug loved being grandpa to Jazmyne, Margaret, Lexi and Carmen. He is further survived by his mother Joyce Albright of Hastings; sisters and brothers LaVonne (Jerry) Anderson of Lake Mills, IA, JoAnn (Jack) Kramer of Edina, Barbara (Marc) Jaques of Inver Grove Heights, Kenneth (Mary Zoe) Albright of Henderson, NV; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Serving as Honorary Urn Bearers were Tony, Andy, Jon, Jed, and Josh Albright, Kelly and Ted Kramer. Arrangements with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia. www.johnsonfh.com
