Norwood Young America’s Econofoods will be closing Sept. 20 this year in a surprise announcement, according to the Norwood Young America Chamber of Commerce.
A surprise to many in the area, the city and chamber are currently working to understand what has happened.
“The only information confirmed by the store is that it will be closing as of Sept 20, 2019,” wrote Karen Hallquist, executive director for the NYA Area Chamber of Commerce, in an email. “We know no other information at this time, and SpartanNash is not sharing any information at this time.”
The editors at Sun Patriot Newspapers have also reached out to SpartanNash - the store’s corporate owners who are headquartered in Michigan - and will continue to report on the closure as it unfolds or as information becomes available.
What is confirmed at this point is the Econofoods location in Norwood Young America will be closed by Sept. 20. Why this is happening as well as the possible ripple effects on NYA and the surrounding communities are still currently unknown.
