The Waconia Marching Band debuted its 2019 show “A New Day” last Wednesday for the community at City Square Park, then jumped quickly into the parade season with performances over the weekend in Princeton and Albertville, Minn.

“Big Black” is nearly 180 members strong this year and already took top marching band honors at both Princeton and Albertville, plus a “best drum line” award.

This week, the marching band performs a show and plays the National Anthem before the Minnesota Twins game on Thursday, is at Lake Crystal on Friday, and travels to Owatonna on Saturday, June 15, during the day before hosting its own band festival that evening.

The Lake Waconia Band Festival annually welcomes more than a dozen marching bands and a few thousand visitors from around the state. The marching bands take to downtown Main Street at 6 p.m.

The rest of the Waconia Marching Band season is as follows: June 18 in Litchfield, June 20 in Milaca, June 22 in Glencoe, June 24 in Roseville, and the final competition, the Vikingland Band Festival in Alexandria, Minn., on Sunday, June 30.

Over the week of July 4th, the band travels to the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan and performs at a Fourth of July parade in Wauwautosa, Wis.
