The popular Music in the Park and Movies in the Park series presented by the Waconia Parks & Recreation Department begins on Thursday, June 6. Music in the Park performances are held on most Thursdays in June and July from 7-8 p.m. Movies in the Park begin Friday, June 7 and start at 8:30 p.m. Both event series are held at City Square Park. The 2019 Music in the Park lineup includes:
Traveled Ground, June 6
The Waconia band offers a combination of folk, blues and Americana styles. Multi-instrumentalist Clark Machtemes leads the band in their story driven songs. They released their fifth full length album in early 2016 and are currently set to release a new album in the fall of 2019. Machtemes often describes his music as bringing southern roots music to a Minnesota bluegrass and rock mixture.
Sidewalk Cafe Trio, June 13
With Reynold Philipsek on guitar, Gary Schulte on vocals and violin and Jeff Brueske on Bass the park will be set for a night of jazz. Each member has studied music and has spent time working on their craft and have become recognizable throughout the state. The band will perform music by Stephan Grapelli, Django Reinhardt and their own originals.
Wondercure, June 20
The Twin Cities based classic rock band features music from the ‘60’s, ‘70’s, 80’s and beyond. Members David Lindahl, Bob Lindahl, John Herzog, Mike Lupo and Rob Friedlein will perform from artists including the Beatles, Doors, Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and other musicians that were influential throughout the decades.
Tricia & The Toonies, June 27
This family friendly Toonies Family Fun Show features Tricia, Pete and their funny puppets. The show is set to engage audience members of all ages with their comedy routine, songs and audience participation.
The Castaways, July 11
Minnesota musicians will bring the rock’n’roll back to Music in the Park. Their hit “Liar, Liar” became a national hit for members Jim Donna, Bob Donna, Rick Snider and Ralph HIntz. The band will not only play their original work but play hits from artists including the Beach boys, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond and other Motown artists.
Everett Smithson Band, July 18
This group will perform their blues sound with original songs off their five CDs. The band has been influenced by members who have hopped on board include Everett’s wife kathy Smithson, guitar player Phil Schmid, drummer Jeremy Johnson and Bill Black on stand up bass. Their most recent album “Tall Tales” was released in 2018.
The Tuxedo Band, July 25
This six member group has one goal, to keep the dance floor full and rocking. Each member brings in decades of experience within the Twin Cities music scene as well as high energy and emotion.
The Brueskesy, August 1
Jeff Brueske and his sister Tara will bring their soulful sound to the park for listeners of all ages. They will be performing their brother/sister duo with piano and upright bass accompanying their performance of American standards from Steve Lawrence to Eydie Gorme from the Carpenters. Jeff’s smooth sound comes from his two decades of experience and he is also a member of Sidewalk Cafe.
