Totino-Grace finished second for the Class 2A Section 4 True Team girls track and field meet May 9 at Richfield.
The Eagles scored 466 points as a team coming in second behind Blake, which had 479.5 points. Blake advanced to the Class 2A True Team state meet in Stillwater Friday and Saturday. Local teams Fridley and Columbia Heights came in sixth and tenth place respectively at the section meet.
Despite Totino-Grace’s success as a team, the Eagles won only one event, the 1600-meter run. Sophomore Emilie Meyer won the race in five minutes, 34.10 seconds. Junior Rachel Zastoupil came in right behind her for second place at 5:42.29.
Zastoupil edged Fridley’s Anna Couwenhoven. The Tigers freshman clocked 5:45.64 for third place.
Meyer produced another of Totino-Grace’s top-five finishes at the meet. She took second in the 3200 at 12:03.46. Sophomore Kiley Wahlin came in fifth at 13:22.01.
Eagles sophomore Abby Roberts placed third in the 100 hurdles at 17.43. She also placed eighth in the 300 hurdles at 53.03.
Fridley sophomore Santrice Rodriguez won the race at 49.48. She placed sixth in the 100 hurdles at 17.75.
The Tigers also won the 4x400 relay in 4:13.04, and Totino-Grace came in third at 4:15.56. The Eagles also placed third in 4x800 at 10:53.65 while the Tigers finished fifth at 11:03.29.
Sophia Baker finished second for the Eagles in the discus with a throw of 97-05. Fellow sophomore Christine Duffy came in eighth at 77-4.
Baker didn’t fare as well in the shot put with a sixth-place finish at 31-5. Sophomore Megan Schlaefer threw 30-5 for seventh.
Fridley fared well in sprints as senior Cece Lewis took third in the 100 at 12.69. Junior Coco Nolen finished ninth at 13.43.
Lewis also finished second in the 400 at 59.17.
Tigers freshman Alvina Camara did well in the long jump, taking fifth at 15-01.
Columbia Heights freshman Analiyah Dumoulin had the top individual finish of the meet for the Hylanders. She took fourth in the long jump at 4-10.
Eagles boys finish fourth
Totino-Grace finished fourth in the Class 2A Section 4 boys True Team track and field meet in Richfield May 9.
The Eagles scored 444 points, 38 points back of third-place Richfield. Holy Angels won the meet with 537. Local teams Fridley placed fifth at 440 and Columbia Heights finished 10th at 143.5.
Eagles senior Michael Miller took fourth in the 100 at 11.53 and sixth in the 200 at 23.75. Sophomore Marshall Loveland placed second in the 800 at 2:10.57, and senior Chris Hadzima took sixth at 2:13.09.
Miller also shined in the long jump, placing second at 20-4. He missed the winning jump by less than a foot.
Fridley’s Graham Hoglund finished fifth in the 800. The Tigers senior clocked 2:12.88.
Hoglund also took third in the pole vault at 10-0. Totino-Grace sophomore Eric Spaeth finished fourth at 9-6.
Gregory Denzer had one of the bigger individual showings for Fridley with second place in the 300 hurdles at 46.24. The Tigers junior also took fourth in the 110 hurdles at 17.66. Fellow junior Daevion Brown finished fourth in the 300 hurdles at 46.89.
Fridley also cracked the top three in a couple relays. The Tigers clocked 46.54 in the 4x100 and 1:37.74 in the 4x200. Totino-Garce placed fifth in the 4x100 at 47.33 and sixth in the 4x200 at 1:40.77.
The Tigers won the 4x400 relay at 3:42.30. The Eagles finished fifth at 3:48.32, and Columbia Heights took eighth at 4:27.88.
Totino-Grace took third in the 4x800 at 9:00.07 while Fridley finished seventh at 9:35.96.
Fridley sophomore Terell Davis finished second in the high jump at 5-8. Totino-Grace sophomore Joshua Abedu-Bentsi took fourth at 5-6. Columbia Heights freshman Ben Olson took fifth at 5-4.
Noah Presseller placed second in the shot put for Totino-Grace. The Eagles senior threw 46-0. Fridley sophomore Cheick Kaba finished sixth at 40-0.
Presseller also placed in the top six for the discus. His 102-0 mark gave him sixth place for the event.
