Special Olympics Minnesota has named South View Middle School the 2019 Unified Champion School of the Year.

The award will be presented at Special Olympics Minnesota’s annual Distinguished Service Awards event, set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis. Twelve individuals and organizations will be recognized with unique awards honoring their leadership in promoting inclusion and acceptance.

This is the latest in a string of recognition for South View’s special education programming. Last spring, South View’s Peer Insights group was honored at the PACER Center’s Unity Awards for their coordination of the school-wide awareness campaign “Spread the Word to End the ‘R’ Word.” This fall, South View will be featured in the Association of Middle Level Education Magazine in a story on the topic of teaching social responsibility.

Tickets for the Distinguished Service Awards event are free.
