A vehicle fleeing Richfield Police officers rolled over and sent its occupants scattering, with one of the three occupants being arrested.
The incident began at approximately 7:35 p.m. March 4 when a police officer observed a 2011 Kia Sorento driving without headlights as it traveled north on Portland Avenue near 77th Street. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated and fled, prompting the officer to terminate the traffic stop, according to Richfield Police Lt. Brad Drayna.
The Kia struck a vehicle and the raised center median near the intersection of Portland and 73rd Street, causing the Kia to flip onto its roof. Three occupants fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to locate and arrest a 22-year-old man, Drayna noted.
The Kia had been reported stolen in Minneapolis, and the incident remains under investigation, he added.
