John Lund

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Hockey — Current Ponies Kristina King, Marah Sobczak, Amanda Cartony, Cassandra Salmen and former Ponies standouts Chelsey Jones, Allison Schwab, Kaleigh Bell and Kelsey Johnson are among those providing instruction for U8 and U10 players in the Pony Hockey Fun and Skills Camp under the direction of head coach Tony Scheid.

Track and field — Stillwater’s John Lund betters his own Masters Division (age 55-59) Minnesota state record in the pole vault while placing fourth in his age group with a height of 3.5 meters (11- 1/2) at the USA Track and Field National Outdoor Championships in Oshkosh, Wis. Previously, Lund wins his age group after clearing 11 feet at the Minnesota Star of the North Games.

Baseball — The Stillwater Loggers defeat Bloomington 6-1 in the opening round of the Minnesota Class “A” state amateur baseball tournament at Dunning Field in St. Paul. The Loggers are eliminated from the tourney after falling to the Shamrocks 6-0 and St. Louis Park 4-1.
