OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Losing just two games combined in three doubles matches, Stillwater cruised to a 6-1 nonconference girls’ tennis victory over Minnehaha Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Stillwater Area High School.

Elizabeth Milker and Catherine Monty posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory for the Ponies (1-1 SEC, 2-2) at first doubles and Stillwater did not lose a game at the second and third spots. Allison Benning and Anna Lindeberg collected a victory at No. 2 doubles while Grace May and Erin Gallion prevailed at third doubles.

“After losing a tough, close one on Tuesday to Cretin-Derham Hall we bounced back with a nice victory against Minnehaha Academy,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Our depth was clearly apparent in that one.”

Stillwater also received straight-set victories from Molly Anderson and Julia Fontaine at second and fourth singles. Stillwater’s Lizzie Holder bounced back after dropping the first set to pull out a 6-7 (9-7), 6-4, (10-3) victory over Sarah Hollis at third singles.

At St. Paul, the Raiders won three of four singles matches and also prevailed at first doubles to edge Stillwater 4-3 in a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Stillwater’s lone singles point came at the No. 2 spot, where Molly Anderson dispatched Morgan Redden 6-3, 6-1.

The Ponies also collected victories at second and third doubles. Allison Benning and Anna Lindeberg notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at the second spot while Bryn Wurgler and Mara Doe outlasted Cretin-Derham Hall’s Laura Seifert and Annie Green 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at third doubles.

At Oak Park Heights, the Ponies opened conference play with a convincing 7-0 victory over East Ridge on Thursday, Aug. 29 at SAHS.

Stillwater’s Abby Anderson rallied after dropping the first set for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Anna Tokheim at third singles. Stillwater’s Lizzie Holder also appeared headed to a third set before her opponent retired.

“We had a great start to our conference season,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said.

Stillwater competed without its top singles player Jana Myers because of a sore hip.

“All of our players were able to slide up a spot and get the job done,” Kahl said.

The Ponies also won all three doubles matches without dropping a set.

Stillwater 7, East Ridge 0

At Oak Park Heights, the Ponies notched a victory at second doubles, but was unable to keep pace with Mahtomedi while falling 6-1 in a nonconference dual on Thursday, Aug. 22 at SAHS.

“It was a good match, but we couldn’t quite get the job done,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Halfway through the first set we were ahead in five matches. Hopefully we’ll be able to sustain the momentum better in the future.”

Stillwater’s lone victory came from Erin Gallion and Catherine Monty with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 doubles triumph over Annika Hillstrom and Chloe Irvine.

Bryn Wurgler and Mara Doe stretched their match at third doubles to three sets before falling 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Abby Anderson also played well for the Ponies at fourth singles before falling to Hanna Brodt 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
