Twelve local photographers who met through a Facebook page published a book of Stillwater photographs — made, printed and sold locally.
“Stillwater in Seasons” features photos of Stillwater’s historic buildings, bridges and parks through spring, summer, fall and winter.
Shelley Livermore, one of the photographers, said the 12 photographers met through the Facebook group “Pictures of Stillwater.” They started meeting socially to chat about cameras and photography, she said. At one point, someone suggested they make a calendar or book with all the great photos of the Stillwater area.
“We all love living in the Valley and it’s beautiful in any season,” Livermore said. “It just kind of morphed into this.”
The 12 local photographers include: David Parker, Dan Kalusche, Tom Wieland, Darlene Wieland, Laurel Anderson, Karen Schulz, Livermore, Kelley Brenner, Ron Brenner, Dale Peterson, Bill Hering and Carl Wegener. Local writer, John Gillstrom, who had an 18-year career at the Stillwater Evening Gazette, wrote the book’s text. In addition to contributing photos, Parker also designed the book.
Wegener said members of the group have varying levels of photography experience and type of equipment but that added to the quality of the book.
“We tried to get different perspectives and different things to provide a more complete look at the city,” Wegener said. “Each one of us has thousands of pictures of Stillwater.”
Livermore added the group wanted to keep the book local, from conception to publishing. The book, printed locally at Stillwater Printing, is available for sale at Valley Bookseller, located at 217 Main St. N. in Stillwater. Wegener added Valley Bookseller partnered with the photographers to help make it financially feasible to print the book.
“We’re all local people so we just thought it would be natural to do that,” Livermore said.
“It’s a unique project,” Wegener added. “They’re a great group of photographers.”
