A deep and balanced lineup has paid dividends all season for the Stillwater girls’ golf team, which finished second in the Suburban East Conference and captured its second straight Section 4AAA title.
Sophomore Sam Kane joined teammate Caitlyn Garrity with the low round for the Ponies on Day 2 of the section tourney as the Ponies pulled away for an 81-shot victory over runner-up Mahtomedi. Kane also shot an 84 in blustery conditions to record the team’s top score while leading the Ponies to a second-place finish in the SEC Tournament.
A four-year standout, Blake Evensen has contributed to an impressive run of success for the Stillwater boys’ lacrosse team.
The senior and Mercer University recruit has been a productive scorer and steady presence for the Ponies, who were ranked second and one of just two undefeated teams in the state before falling to Mahtomedi 13-11 in the Section 4 semifinals on June 3. Evensen was held to a goal against the Zephyrs, but contributed two goals and a team-high four assist in Stillwater’s 24-2 section quarterfinal victory over Hill-Murray.
