Gilbert named Minnesota's Mr. Baseball

Three of Stillwater’s finest players were honored as part of the 2019 Play Ball! Minnesota Mr. Baseball and Ms. Softball Awards Banquet on Sunday, June 23 at Target Field in Minneapolis. Drew Gilbert, shown above with head coach Mike Parker, was named Mr. Baseball from a list of seven finalists for the prestigious award. Fellow SAHS senior Will Frisch, an Oregon State recruit, was another finalist for the award, along with Will Anderson of St. Michael-Albertville, Adam Mazur of Woodbury, Ben Pedersen of Duluth Marshall, Trent Schoeberl of White Bear Lake and Evan Shaw of Fridley. Led by the hard-throwing duo, Stillwater capture a state championship in 2018 and finished third this past season. The Ponies posted a combined 48-6 record the past two seasons. Catcher Torri Chute, who helped lead the Stillwater softball team to a state championship a year ago and runner-up finish this past season, was a finalist for the Ms. Softball Award that was presented to McKayla Armbruster of Faribault. The other finalists were Claire Bakkestuen of Forest Lake, Holly Blaska of Champlin Park, Ava Dueck of Maple Grove, Olivia Hazelbaker of Farmington and Bryanna Olson of Park.
