The last Saturday of April is World Tai Chi Day. Hundreds of cities from around the globe join in the practice of this moving meditation for global peace and healing.

Since 2016, Healing Within Studio’s owner, acupuncturist, and tai chi instructor, Aimee Van Ostrand, L.Ac and John Kerschbaum, owner of Gondola Romantica and tai chi instructor have hosted a Tai Chi event in downtown Stillwater. The event started as a small practice by the river. Through the years, the event has been held at Maple Island Brewery’s parking lot and the Stillwater Library Balcony. Last year, World Tai Chi Day - Stillwater 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic.

World Tai Chi Day - Stillwater 2021 will return by the river at Lowell Park on Saturday, April 24, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Ostrand and Kerschbaum, along with local tai chi instructors will lead in the practice. Visitors will see demonstrations of various tai chi forms.

Tai Chi is an ancient moving meditation with its roots in Chinese martial arts and traditional Chinese medicine. The low impact movements are tied to slow deep breaths. The practice is known for its many health benefits such as improving balance, circulation, range of motion, and immune function. Tai Chi is a life long practice for all ages.

Healing Within Acupuncture & Wellness Studio is located in Stillwater and White Bear Lake. They offer community acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and tai chi classes. Gondola Romantica offers cruises on the St. Croix River during the spring to autumn months. Kerschbaum leads a tai chi group in Bayport.

Throughout the summer months, Ostrand leads a casual Tai Chi practice by the river, Saturday mornings 9-10 a.m. at Lowell Park.
