Candidate filing period for city offices begins Aug. 2

All candidates must be eligible to vote, will be at least 21 years of age on Election Day, and have lived at their residence in the area for at least 30 days before the election.

Find out what to expect during filing in each of the following cities.

Champlin

The city of Champlin will have three seats on the ballot- mayor and two council members. All are four-year terms.

The filing fee is $5.

Dayton

Dayton is hosting a primary election Aug. 9 to narrow its candidates for council seats. Voters will elect a total of three candidates in the primary election.

Voters can elect two candidates for the four-year council member seats. These seats are currently held by Julie Gustafson and Scott Salonek. Those who have filed for a chance at one of the two seats are Darren Browen, David Fashant, Jesse Huff-Larson, Ryan Maltzen and Salonek.

There is also a special election for a council member for a two-year term. The seat is currently held on an interim basis by Fashant. Those who have filed for this seat are Dave Pikal, Matt Trost and Bryce Wisnewski.

The primary election will narrow down the number of candidates running for each open seat.

The mayoral seat is also up for reelection, but voters will only be casting their ballots for that seat in the Nov. 8 election. Those who have filed area current mayor Dennis Fisher and current city council member Gustafson.

Maple Grove

The city of Maple Grove will have three open positions on the council - mayor and two council members. Each term runs four years.

The filing fee is $40 and packets are available at the Maple Grove Government Center, 12900 Arbor Lakes Parkway.

Osseo

In Osseo, there will be three spots open on the council - mayor (two-year term) and two council members (four-year terms).

The filing fee is $2.
