The headquarters of Upsher-Smith Laboratories will be getting bigger in Maple Grove. This year, the building will be expanded close to 300,000 square feet to accommodate the consolidation of Upsher-Smith’s manufacturing facilities.

Upsher-Smith plans to transition all of its products to the new, modern, efficient, high-quality manufacturing facility over the next three years. It was an all-company event that was also attended by executive leadership from Upsher-Smith’s parent company, Sawai Pharmaceutical.

On June 5, Upsher-Smith hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking event. Rusty Field, President and CEO of Upsher-Smith Laboratories, the Executive Leadership of Sawai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., were in attendance. Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson was also on hand at the event.

After a short presentation, dirt was ceremoniously shoveled to signal the start of the building’s expansion.

Upsher-Smith is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The pharmaceutical company was established in 1919. In 2002, Upsher-Smith Laboratories selected Maple Grove for its headquarters location. The building was expanded in 2012.
