The Rogers girls basketball team won their fourth game in a row and improved their record to 7-2 with a 60-48 win over Edina at the St. Michael Invitational Wednesday, Dec. 29.

An evenly played first half found the Royals down 23-27 at the break. Edina stretched their lead to 39-30 at the 13:22 mark of the second half, when Rogers coach Karlee Anderson called a timeout to regroup. From that point onward, Rogers controlled both ends of the floor. Good team defense started shutting down Edina’s drives to the basket and provided few uncontested shots for the Hornets.

The Royals also found their stride offensively, hitting from outside, and creating scoring opportunities inside. The team would outscore Edina 30-9 the rest of the way, for the final 60-48 victory.

Rogers was led by junior center Katelyn Maciej with a game high 18 points. Other top scorers were Ellie Buzzelle with 12, Alexis Moberg 11, and Clara Glad with 10.

Rogers traveled to Sartell-St. Stephen Tuesday, Jan. 4, followed by a home game Friday, Jan. 7, vs. Elk River.
