The Rogers boys and girls golf teams finished out their seasons at the Section 5-3A tournament.
The boys took third out of 11 teams with a two-day total of 642 at Bunkers Hills Golf Course. Owen Erickson led the way with a 158 (78, 80), finishing 11th overall — sixth excluding Maple Grove golfers, who automatically qualified for state as a result of winning the Section 5-3A championship. He was followed by Jacob Scharber with a 161, Jake Hemann with a 163, Jack Swan with a 165, Grant Greni with a 166 and Sam Simpson with a 170.
Rogers head coach Dan Bursheim was pleased with his team’s performance, albeit disappointed that Erickson couldn’t quite sneak through to state.
“We were within three shots at the completion of the first 9 but faded over the last 27 holes,” Rogers head coach Dan Bursheim said. “Individually, freshman Owen Erickson had two nice days and missed qualifying for the fifth state spot by just one shot. Owen was down three with two holes remaining and just missed birdie putts on both holes. The other competitor felt the pressure but was able to bogie both holes for a one shot difference.”
As for the girls, they qualified five golfers to Day 2 of the Section 5-3A tournament at The Links at Northfolk. Izzy Erikson led the team with a 170 (86, 84) in a ninth-place finish, falling one place shy of state. Erikson was followed by Sara Kangas with a 178, Mackenzie Olsen with a 188, Emma Springer with a 193 and Jenna Kerkvliet with a 206.
