Rockford’s trap shooting team finished third in eight-team Conference 4 behind Lake of the Woods and Hibbing.

The team moves on to the Class AAAA championship in Alexandria Thursday, June 13.

“We need five shooters to post their best scores to advance to the state tournament on June 22,” said coach Scott Kissner. “We were up and down each week this season. We did score more points than Hibbing one week and more than Lake of the Woods in another. The team did peak at the right time and we are really looking forward to Alexandria.”

The top 40 teams in all classes advance to the state meet at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. Last year Rockford won the conference title.

The top shooter was senior Chance Palmer. Others in the top 10 are seniors Jackson Hellman, Hawkin Petron, Brock Desens and Drew Kissner; juniors Jack Bryngelson, Ryan Fleischhacker, Karly Vogel and Nathan Jorgenson, plus sophomore Hunter Ehlers.

Coaches this year were Scott Kissner, Jason Doboszenski, Kyal Klawitter, Rick Schmitz and Dean Doboszesnki.

The team had 38 shooters, five of which were seventh graders and four others that also had not participated in shooting sports before.

“To my surprise we had two seventh graders letter,” adds Kissner. “One of them, Andrew Wandersee, shot a perfect round of 25.”
