The Swanville School Board approved, Wednesday, to increase the cost of school lunches. The decision was made after the school received notice from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) that they needed to raise their lunch prices.
Supt. Gene Harthan said while MDE recommended the school to set the price at about $3 per meal, the school is opting to go with the minimum amount it is required to raise — 10 cents.
“There is no way we are going to raise it with 40 cents in a year,” he said.
The cost per meal for elementary school students in grades kindergarten to sixth grade was raised from $2.45 per meal to $2.55.
For high school students in grades 7-12, the price was increased from $2.60 per meal to $2.70.
