Royalton sophomore Rachel Cekalla connects with a pitch for one of her two hits in a 10-0 loss to Albany, Tuesday.

While the top-seeded Pierz softball team advanced to the Section 6AA quarterfinals easily, the Royalton softball team’s season ended after a 10-0 loss in five innings to Albany, Tuesday.

The Royals were unable to push across any runs, despite nine hits, including multi-hit games from Aubrey and Hannah Krueger and Rachel Cekalla. Autumn Schoenrock also had a hit.

The Huskies scored three times off of starter Shelby Hovland, and after she got into some trouble in the fourth, Cekalla came in to pitch.

Albany then scored seven runs off the relief pitcher in the bottom of the fifth to close out the win early.

As for Pierz, the Pioneers walloped No. 16 Milaca, Tuesday, winning, 21-4 in four innings.

Junior Kiara Olesch hit two home runs and drove in four. She was also 3-for-3 and scored three times.

Liz Kelash was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Erika Dickmann had an RBI double.

Senior Tori Wagner pitched all four innings, allowing just two hits and four runs, striking out four.

In other Section 6AA action, No. 5 Holdingford beat No. 12 Foley, 10-3, Tuesday.

Brea Worlie was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Huskers.

Holdingford advanced to play No. 4 Cathedral and Pierz played No. 8 Sauk Centre, Thursday, but results were not available by press time.

Win or lose, either the Pioneers and Huskers will still compete until a second loss. Section 6AA games will be played at the Waite Park softball complex.

Royalton’s season ended with a final record of 8-11.
