A pair of Pierz golfers earned medalist honors at meets in the past week.
First, four Granite Ridge Conference girls golf teams played in Albany, April 22, including both Pierz and Little Falls.
The Pioneers came in second place with a total of 391, thanks in large part to an 85 from Emily Virnig, who was the medalist at the meet.
Little Falls had only two golfers, so the Flyers did not register a team score.
Pierz’ other three scores that led to its total were a 100 from Abby Nelson, a 102 from Ellie Fischer and a 103 from Tiffany Virnig.
The final two golfers for the Pioneers were Cameryn Herold (129) and Addie LeBlanc (132).
Little Falls’ two golfers were Maddie Doble (131) and Ellie Lozier (142).
Next, Pierz boys golfer, Lance Otremba was the medalist at an invite hosted at Greystone in Sauk Centre, Wednesday.
The junior shot a 76 in the 18-hole tournament to place first. Fellow junior teammate Logan Herold finished in second place with a 78.
As a team, the Pioneers finished in fifth place out of eight teams with a total of 362.
Little Falls also participated in the meet, finishing in seventh place with a total of 371. No individual results for the Flyers were available.
The Pierz girls golf team was also at Greystone, Wednesay.
The Pioneer girls team finished in second place with a total of 411.
Three Pioneers finished in the top six. Junior Emily Virnig led the Pierz pack, firing a 97 to finish in fifth place. Seniors Ellie Fischer and Abby Nelson finished in a tie for sixth place with a score of 102.
The Pierz girls will host the Flyers for another GRC meet, Thursday.
The Little Falls and Pierz boys will both play at Springbrook in Mora, Tuesday.
