The Pierz School Board raised the cost of meals for the 2022 - 23 school year, June 29. The decision was made hesitantly as the Board didn’t want to burden parents even more as many are facing hard times. However, given the increased cost of food and the fact that the food service fund have to be self-sustaining (no money is allowed to be moved to it from any other fund), the Board felt it had not much of a choice, said School Board Member Ashley Toops.
Breakfast and lunch will be free for students who qualify for free or reduced breakfast or lunch. The Board encourages families to fill out the application for it, even if they think they’re too close to the income limit, they said.
For those who don’t quality for free or reduced meals, the student breakfast/lunch meals were increased with 10 cents and a 5 cent increase for milk. As a result, the cost for breakfast is now $1.65 per meal. Milk is 50 cents per carton.
The cost of lunch is separated depending upon which bracket the student falls in. For students in grades preschool to sixth, the cost is $2.45 per meal. For students in grades seven through 12, the cost per meal is $2.70.
Meals for adults were increased to $2.30 for breakfast and $4.10 for lunch.  Â
